Fertilizer Industry in Thailand

  • Total fertilizer consumption around 5.5 million MT
  • Of this consumption granular urea imports make up between 2-2.5 million MT; NPK makes up in excess of 2 million MT of which imports are around 1.250 million MT and the rest is domestic production either via steam granulation (TCCC operates a 900 KT annual NPK plant) or bulk blends which PRAVIT Group/VIKING is a major operator.
  • Almost all bulk imports of fertilizers arrives through KOSICHANG – an offshore discharge point from vessel into barges – barges shipped for up to 3 days through the various rivers systems where the fertilizer is being bagged into branded bags and distributed.
  • About 50% of fertilizers goes into rice production
